On behalf of the Organizing Commitee of the 9th International Symposium on Steel Bridges (ISSB Prague 2018) we are pleased to invite you to cooperate on Symposium being held from the 10th to 11th of September 2018 at the NH Prague City Hotel, The Czech Republic.

The ISSB Prague 2018 is organised by the Czech Constructional Steelwork Association (CAOK) in coordination with European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) in conjuction with the ECCS Steel Bridge Awards Ceremony and ECCS Annual General Meetings.

The ISSB Prague 2018 Symposium is going to present and discuss a wide range of topics related to a great variety of research, design and construction activities in steel bridges sector.

This symposium offers an excelent platform to show your new products and the newest technology solutions and equipment to symposium participants by taking part in the exhibition and/or being a significant partner of this international event.

We look forward to seeing you in the beautiful city of Prague and we are prepared to discuss further details related to our excellent meeting with you.

GUIDELINES FOR PRESENTATIONS AND POSTERS

Presentations

  • There is no official template for a presentation; a presenter can use any layout he wants to.
  • Computers will be able to run presentations prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint (*.ppt, *.pptx). If you use any other program, please convert your presentation to PDF.
  • Allocated time for each presentation is 20 minutes (15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes for discussion). Please make sure you will be able to meet this limit.
  • If you want to send us your presentation in advance, please do so on 5th September the latest by sending the presentation to info@steelbridges2018.com.
  • If you will not be able to send the presentation until this date or if you will make some changes after this date, you are asked to upload the presentation directly to the computer in your conference room during coffee break or lunch break before your presentation. There will be a technician that will assist you.

Posters

  • There is no official template for a poster; an author can use any layout he wants to.
  • All posters should be printed on A0 papers (841x1189 mm), portrait format (NOT landscape).
  • Please print your poster in advance. There will be no plotter available directly at the symposium venue for printing of posters and printers.
  • Please install you poster during the morning of the first symposium day (Monday, 10th September), at 12 am the latest, and keep it in place at least until the end of the lunch break of the second symposium day (Tuesday, 11th September). There will be technicians that will assist you with installation. They will be equipped with all necessary means (pins, adhesive tape and scissors). Ask at the registration desk.
  • Authors of posters should be present at their posters during at least two coffee breaks or lunch breaks to answer the questions of symposium participants.
  • Please keep in mind that the posters might be slightly damaged while installed on the board (by pins or adhesive tape). We cannot guarantee that they will be usable after the symposium.
  • Please use sufficient font size (at least 32 pt.) to make sure your poster will be readable from a distance.
  • Please avoid excessive amounts of text on posters, concentrate on illustrative figures, schemes or charts.

CALL FOR PAPERS

You can submit your full-length paper using online submission form

English will be the official language of the 9th International Symposium on Steel Bridges 2018.

Deadline for submitting a full paper is 16 April 2018.

By submitting a paper the author and all co-authors are assumed to agree:

  • with the terms of the IOP Proceedings Licence
  • with paying at least one full Symposium fee (registration via www.steelbridges2018.com).

Please prepare the paper according to the following instructions:

  • Paper size is European A4.
  • Margins are 4cm (top), 2.5cm (left and right) and 2.7cm (bottom).
  • The paper includes the author name and affiliation (full address including country).
  • There are no page numbers, or headers and footers, within the paper.
  • The PDF is free of formatting errors (e.g. corrupt equations, missing or low-resolution figures), since conversion from Word to PDF can introduce formatting errors.
  • Text is single spaced, not double spaced.
  • The PDF file is editable and not password protected.
  • All pages are portrait (landscape pages should be rotated).
  • Reference lists are checked for accuracy. References can only be linked via Crossref if they are correct and complete.
  • Figures are placed within the text, not collected at the end of the document.
  • A thorough proofread is conducted to check the standard of English and ensure wording is clear and concise.
  • You can use paper template to write your paper.
  • The paper template should contain all the information you might need for preparation of the paper. In case that something is not clear, you can download the detailed instructions provided by IOP Publishing.

Please also keep in mind the following:

  • All papers will be peer reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research content, correctness and relevance to the conference by the Scientific Committee.
  • Only successfully reviewed papers will be accepted for presentation on the conference and (if selected by author) published in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). This journal is indexed in Scopus, Conference Proceedings Citations Index (ISI Web of Science) and many other databases. The papers will be published as Open Access. This possibility is subject to an additional fee of 50 EUR to Symposium fee.
  • During submission, the authors will be asked to express their preference in terms of type of presentation (oral or poster). However, the final decision about the type of the presentation will be made by the Scientific Committee.
  • Please note that presentation of the paper will be only possible after the payment of the registration fee.
  • By submitting the final paper to the organizers, you hereby accept a copyright for the Steel Bridges 2018 organizing committee. Organizers has the right to publish the papers.

Guidelines for presentations and posters will be available in time.

Thanks to its location in the centre of Europe, Prague has always been an Vltavaimportant crossroads of trade and culture. In the course of its thousand-year history, Prague has always been the political, cultural, and business centre of the country.

Golden Prague is a city of hundred spires, an UNESCO site, a majestic and slightly mysterious city with a unique atmosphere. Among the most visited sights are Prague Castle (one of the biggest castles in the world), Charles Bridge, or the Old Town Square with famous Astronomical Clock. Confirmation

An official confirmation of registration will be e-mailed to the participant upon receipt of registration fees. Please remember to bring your proof of payment for presentation upon request.

 

Cancellation of participation (a written request is mandatory)

Pre-registered participants who are unable to attend the symposium will have their paid fees reimbursed less a processing fee of 50 EUR. Cancellation must be sent by email to the Symposium Secretariat before 10 August 2018. All refunds will be processed after the symposium. If cancellation is made after this date no refund of the fee can be expected.

The presenter of the paper cannot cancel their registration and therefore no reimbursement will be processed.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Climate:

Middle of September brings usually nice autumn weather in Prague, but is unpredictable. Temperatures of around 15°-20°C can be expected.

 

Transportation:

The Prague-Vaclav Havel Airport, located 15 km from the city center and approx. 17 km from the symposium venue, is served by many international airlines. The cost of the taxi service from the Ruzyně Airport to the city centre is about 20 EUR nowadays. The shuttle bus service operates as well. City bus No. 119 will take you from the airport to the metro station Nádraží Veleslavín.

City transportation Prague has a comprehensive network of public transportation consisting of three metro lines, trams and buses. Single tickets or travel passes can be purchased at most newspaper stands and from the coin machines at metro stations.

 

Currency:

The official currency is Czech Crown (CZK). Foreign currency exchange is available at Václav Havel Airport Prague and at most hotels, banks and exchange offices throughout the city. Present average rate is 26 CZK for 1 EUR. Major credit cards are accepted in many shops, restaurants and hotels.

 

Visa policy:

Participants from EU and most European countries can enter the Czech Republic without a visa. Other participants are advised to check the requirements at the closest Embassy or Consulate of the Czech Republic in their home country.
An official letter of invitation can be sent on request.

 

Insurance:

Participants are strongly advised to arrange their own personal travel and health insurance. The Organizing Committee will not accept any liability for personal injuries or loss or damage of property belonging to Symposium participants and accompanying persons.

 

Electricity:

The Czech Republic uses a 230V/50 Hz system. Sockets are in the form of European standard.
